School Patrol

School Safety Patrol or Crossing Guards are school-sponsored student volunteers from our 5th grade classes and work to make sure that the students can safely walk to and from school. Patrollers direct children, not traffic. As school-age leaders in traffic safety, patrol members teach other students about traffic safety on a peer-to-peer basis. They also serve as models for younger children, who look up to them.

School Safety Patrol volunteers must be nominated by their teachers, then complete training in traffic safety both online and in person with the advisor. They have a responsibility to protect students from hazards of crossing roads and highways on their way to and from school and help to teach fellow students about traffic safety.

All School Safety Patrol members must:

  • Arrive to their assigned schedule duty on time.

  • Morning patrols are to be at school by 7:45 and on their assigned corners by 7:50.  Morning patrol members cannot take the bus to school. They must either walk or be dropped off.

  • Afternoon patrol students are excused from class at 2:30 and will still be able to take the buses home if needed.

  • Self-Control: Model proper behavior at ALL times. There may not be an adult outside after training, but community members are always watching.

  • Communication: Call or Email advisor when unable to perform duties due to illness or family issues.

  • Responsibility: Maintain and return all patrol equipment after each duty.
